CAMEO: Downloading, Installing, and Running ALOHA

ALOHA is an atmospheric dispersion model used for evaluating releases of hazardous chemical vapors. It is part of the CAMEO software suite, a system of software applications used widely to plan for and respond to chemical emergencies. Learn more about CAMEO and ALOHA.

Note: The installed program includes an extensive on-screen help system (rather than a separate manual). However, you can also download the ALOHA Examples (PDF) (54pp, 1.7 MB, About PDF) document to see three step-by-step fictional examples.

System Requirements: The Windows version requires Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8. The Macintosh version requires OS 10.5.8 or greater.

Installing ALOHA


On a Windows PC

Once you have downloaded the installation program, double-click the ALOHA application file, then follow the directions you'll see on your screen.

On a Macintosh

Once you have downloaded the installation file (dmg file), the installation folder should open automatically. (If it doesn't open automatically, browse to the dmg file and open it.) Follow the directions you see in the window: Read the file "Saving and Restoring your ALOHA Data.pdf", then drag the ALOHA Folder to your applications folder.

Note: Review the ALOHA instructions for Mac OS X if you're installing ALOHA on a Mac.

Starting ALOHA

On a Windows PC

To start ALOHA, open the Start menu, then point to Programs, and then click ALOHA.

On a Macintosh

Double-click on the ALOHA program icon inside the "ALOHA Folder" (which is inside the Applications folder or wherever you installed it).

What's New in ALOHA Version 5.4.4?

  • Updated chemical library, including new DIPPR chemical data and new Levels of Concern (AEGLs and ERPGs).
  • Added wind arrow to threat zone pictures.
  • Added additional tick marks to x-axis on the Threat at Point and Source Strength pictures.
  • Resolved problem with ALOHA-MARPLOT sharing that occurred when the ALOHA folder did not have write permissions.
  • Revised helps.
  • Made additional minor changes and bug fixes.
