Region 8 Deep Well Program
Deep Injection Wells generally fall into the following three well classes, Class I, Class II and Class III.
UIC Program primary enforcement authority, or "primacy" for Class II wells exclusive of Indian Lands, has been delegated to state oil and gas agencies. UIC Program primacy for Class I and III wells exclusive of Indian Lands, has been delegated in the states of North Dakota, Utah and Wyoming.
The EPA's Region 8 Ground Water Program office retains primacy for Class I and III wells in Colorado, Montana, South Dakota, and retains primacy for Class I, II and III wells on all Indian Lands in the Region.
