Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) Program

TRI Analysis of Community-Scale Pollution Prevention Activities: North Birmingham, Alabama (PDF)

This study was produced as part of the TRI Community Engagement Pilot Projects Initiative. The initiative includes four pilot projects in various locations around the United States, one of which is focused on North Birmingham. As part of the North Birmingham pilot, EPA conducted an analysis in order to test whether TRI data on pollution prevention (P2) and waste management activities could be useful to communities. The analysis compared 2012 TRI data for facilities located in North Birmingham with facilities in the same industry sectors that are located elsewhere in the country.

Experience gained through this project suggests that TRI data can be useful in identifying beneficial pollution prevention (P2) and waste management activities that have been implemented by similar facilities across the country.
