Nitrogen Mapping

Researchers are creating an inventory of nitrogen sources in the U.S. and mapping the movement of nitrogen from its source into the air, water, and land. Using this data, researchers can better understand nitrogen trends in different regions across time periods.

As part of this effort, EPA is developing the EnviroAtlas, a web-based mapping tool that allows community leaders to evaluate the current and future conditions of natural resources at a local and regional level. Nitrogen maps are one component of the Atlas. The maps and information collected will help communities better determine the most effective and efficient way to manage nitrogen pollution.
